DOZENS of veterans turned out to pay tribute to members of a regional regiment who died during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Durham Light Infantry (DLI) and the Light Infantry Association held a memorial service at The Last Post, The Don Bar War Memorial Museum and Veterans Hub in Thornaby, Teesside, on Sunday afternoon. It was the first time members were able to gather in one place to pay their respects since restrictions were lifted.

The service opened with a reading by the DLI and Light Infantry Chaplain, Father Kevin Crawford, who paid tribute to all members who had died during the pandemic. The Mayor of Stockton Cllr Kevin Faulks and the Lord Lieutenant for County Durham Sue Snowdon also attended.

The Thornaby memorial bar’s purpose is to celebrate the lives and commitment of all armed forces and is a place of remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives.
