A 750-METRE stretch of footpath in Barnard Castle will be closed over the weekend after a Holi Festival colour run will be taking place in the historic town on Saturday (March 19).

Officers from Durham County Council have confirmed that the footway around Woodleigh/Scar Top and the river walk will be closed for those not involved in the event.

For people participating, the route is from Scar Top/Woodleigh, down to the stone sheep, a right turn along the path by the river to the silver bridge, and then right turn and up the hill toward the mini golf, pass the mini golf and back to the start/finish area.

The route will be closed from 11am until 3pm.

As part of the sold-out colour run, 30 people at a time will take turns in running along the course in ten-minute intervals, all while getting covered in highly coloured paint.

This event is part of similar festivities taking place within County Durham that will celebrate the Holi Festival, which usually marks Springtime.
