Activities and events are springing back to life at Middleton Hall Retirement Village.

With singing, social events and sporting challenges now firmly back on the cards, the monthly programme of activities on offer for independent residents at the award-winning integrated retirement community at Middleton St George near Darlington is full of opportunities.

Joining the re-instated walking group or the ‘Old School of Rock’ choir, taking part in the weekly pottery classes or the art drop-in sessions, penning a poem, taking photographs to be displayed on the walls of Middleton Hall’s Orangery bistro or bidding at the bridge club are just a few of the things on offer.

The Northern Echo:

Anyone looking for an active challenge can sign up to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on equipment in the village’s Middleton Spa gym or in the pool or they can play in the weekly table tennis sessions in the Bowls Pavilion.

Over at the village’s community allotments, green-fingered residents can tend to the raised beds and the Middleton Hall Estates team run sessions for volunteers to dig in and help around the grounds. Meanwhile everyone is always welcome at the regular dining evenings and social events at The Orangery including wine and cheese quiz evenings and themed events such as the hugely popular Sri Lankan buffet evening.

The Northern Echo:

Middleton Hall Retirement Village’s Healthy Living Manager Michael Hodgson said that being able to live an active life is one of the main benefits of living in a retirement community.

“It’s great to be getting back to normality and seeing our vibrant village community re-emerge.

“We are really noticing people getting their confidence back. Lots are joining the regular trips we run to events and attractions around the region and people are back to socialising together in the Orangery café after exercise classes.

“Our social calendar is filling up fast and we are creating links with our local community again.”

The Northern Echo:

Retired nurse Sonia Wade lives in one of the Middleton Woods independent retirement apartments situated at the heart of the village and she is enjoying getting back to regular activities.

“It’s great to have a chat with the others in my weekly pottery class and to be able to go to The Orangery café again after our exercise classes and have a chat and catch up with people that pop in.

“Everyone is so friendly and kind, I am so happy living here.”
