A COUNTY Durham drink driver who blew three times over the legal limit when he was intercepted in Crook at the weekend will appear in court later this month, as police issue an appeal to “rid” the roads of those that choose to drink drive.

Officers from Durham Constabulary pulled over a white Audi in the Market place of the town in the early hours of Sunday (March 6) morning.

The driver, a 23-year-old male, admitted to driving whilst under the influence and provided a positive roadside breath test which indicated he was three times over the limit.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to custody, and was later charged.

The motorist is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court on March 17.

Traffic Sergeant, Matthew Fussey, from Bishop Auckland response, said: ”Drink driving is a selfish act, it can kill and devastates the lives of those who lose loved ones as a result.

"The officers acted on their instincts and thankfully intercepted this driver before any harm was brought to the community.

“Day or night our officers will be out there, working to rid the roads of those who choose to put others at risk.”
