AN event tipped as ‘Bishop Auckland’s historical extravaganza’ will return to the town later this year, where heritage meets family fun.

‘Kynren - An Epic Tale of England’ will be taking centre stage Bishop Auckland this summer, with six Saturday performances from August 6 to September 10.

To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, there will be an additional performance taking place on Friday, June 3.

Offering live summer entertainment, organisers of Kynren have promised visitors “thrills, shocks, tears, laughs, goosebumps and gasps on a truly cinematic scale”.

As well as the usual entertainment, the event will also offer an opportunity to be transported back in time as 2000 years of history is brought to life with an open-air performance.

From Boudicca’s battles with the Romans to two world wars, via Vikings, Tudors, Stuarts, Queen Victoria, and the Industrial Revolution, Kynren is a family-friendly experience.

Audiences can watch from the 8,000-seater tribune which provides panoramic views across the outdoor stage.

Join young Arthur on his epic quest, with rebellions, wars, magic, majesty, celebration and heartache in an outdoor-theatre spectacular.

Gates open two and a half hours before the start of each show throughout the summer, allowing visitors the opportunity to arrive early for food and drink in one of the dining areas, whilst enjoying live jazz by the lake.
