Mortgage Shield, champions elect of the Maidendale House Five-a-Side League, dropped points for the first time this season after losing 4-2 to Local Heroes.

Shield had won eight out of eight, including a 17-2 win over Heroes earlier in the season. But two new signings have made a real difference to The Northern Echo side, and they deserved this win in an entertaining, end-to-end game.

After 15 minutes, the game was goalless - probaly the longest a game as gone in this league without a defensive breach - but two goals from Adam Dunwoodie, one of the league's top scorers, put heroes 2-0 up at half-time. Mortgage Shield made a substitution, and within five minutes were level. The first came after a sweet, one-touch passing move. The second slipped though the Heroes' keeper's hands.

The Northern Echo reversed the momentum, though. An arrow from Adam Dunwoodie, and a cute side-footer from Adam Emson restored the two-goal lead. If only signings had been made earlier, Local Heroes could have been title contenders. As it is, they have their eye on the cup, and a European place.
