A CANNABIS farm at a property in a County Durham town was causing a "major hazard" to neighbours, police have said.

More than 80 cannabis plants were seized from the address in Ferryhill last Friday, February 18.

Police say the electricity metre had been bypassed at the property in Rennie Street,posing a major hazard to neighbouring homes. 

The building has since been made safe.

Officers removed the plants, along with equipment, and enquiries are being made to locate suspects.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Officers would like to thank the local community for providing information and supporting police action.
