TWO pedestrians have been taken to hospital with head injuries after a collision involving a single vehicle in Spennymoor this morning (February 23).

It's believed that three pedestrians were crossing the road on High Street in the town at around 10.40am when a vehcile collided with them.

Emergency services attended the scene, including the police and ambulance service, after reports of the crash.

The road was closed for a small amount of time to allow paramedics to treat the pedestrians, with two of them later transported to hospital with minor injuries and one treated and discharged at the scene.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called at around 10.40am this morning to reports of a one vehicle collision involving two pedestrians on High Street, Spennymoor.

"Officers were joined by Ambulance at the scene."

Following the incident, the pedestrians were transferred to University Hospital of North Durham with minor injuries.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 10:40am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision between a car and two pedestrians on High Street in Spennymoor. 

"We sent two ambulance crews and a rapid response paramedic. We transported two patients with head injuries to University Hospital North Durham and treated a third who was discharged on scene."
