A MAN has appeared in court after entering a care home in County Durham as a trespasser.

Jack Birkett used violent means to gain entry to Pelton Grange Care Home, in Pelton, near Chester-le-Street on June 17 last year.

Birkett, 28, of Ernest Street, Pelton, had previously admitted the charge on January 31.

He was sentenced at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

He was given a 12-month community order and will have to complete 10 rehabilitation days.

He was told to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95.
