A MAN has been jailed after stealing scrap metal and wiring from a North East college – just three days after being handed a suspended sentence for another theft.

Liam Perry pleaded guilty to stealing the materials from New College Durham, in Framwellgate Moor, last November.

The 31-year-old appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 18.

Perry, of Rydal Avenue in Easington Lane admitted stealing scrap metal and copper wiring of unknown value.

He committed the crime on November 12, three days after being given a suspended sentence for stealing copper piping and electric wiring from a building in Scarborough.

He had been given a 12-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, for that offence.

On Friday, he was jailed for 10 weeks and told to pay £500 in compensation.

He was also told to pay court costs of £85 and the victim surcharge of £128.
