A HOMELESS man has been given a community sentence after stealing 17 bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey worth £550 from Tesco.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court heard on Thursday (February 17) that John Ian Bridgewater stole the alcohol from a Tesco store in Bishop Auckland on September 24, 2021.

He pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to a 12-month community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement.

Bridgewater, 34, of no fixed address, was not ordered to pay any court costs or charges due to his lack of means.
