AN ITV weather presenter has issued a stark warning to everyone ahead of severe conditions across the North East and UK.

Lucy Verasamy, who is a familiar face on our TV screens, has warned the upcoming Storm Eunice could be one of the "worst" in 30 years.

Taking to social media, the weather presenter warned everyone to take weather warnings seriously and not be fooled by seemingly calmer conditions today.

It comes as the Met Office has upgraded the weather warning in parts of the UK to red, which is the most severe warning yet.

Meanwhile, the North East and North Yorkshire is set to be battered by 85mph winds and the arrival of snow later today.

On Twitter, the weather presenter said: "Don’t be fooled by calm conditions today. Experienced forecasters have been jumpy about tomorrows’ storm for days.

What the Met Office has said

A spokesperson for the Met Office confirmed bleak conditions for the region with snow coming to parts later tonight.

They said: "Today: Sunny spells and isolated showers this morning, then sunny intervals and scattered showers this afternoon. The showers will be wintry over high ground, and perhaps at lower levels. Strong winds at first, but gradually the wind will ease. Maximum temperature 7 °C."

"Tonight: Isolated showers and clear spells initially, with a slight frost. Then becoming cloudy, with heavy rain spreading northeastwards later, turning to heavy snow and accumulating even at low levels. Minimum temperature -1 °C."

"Friday: Widespread snow at first, often heavy, with accumulations. This quickly clears, then cloudy with spells of rain, the rain likely to increasingly turn to snow as strong winds develop. Maximum temperature 4 °C."
