AN HISTORIC town clock is currently out of action after breaking.

Darlington’s town clock, which towers over the town centre and market area, isn’t ticking due to a snapped pin in the mechanism.

The clock is currently stuck in the 12 o’clock position and is due to be repaired in the coming weeks.

Darlington councillor Jonathan Dulston said: “In case anyone is wondering why the town clock isn’t currently working this is why.

“A pin has snapped at the 12 o’clock position which is where the mechanism is at its heaviest.

“The specialist part is now on order and should be replaced in the coming weeks.”
