A VAN driver trapped in his van after a road smash with a lorry on the A19 in North Yorkshire has died.
The 19-year-old, from Peterborough, suffered serious head injuries in the accident near Thirsk.
He was flown to the James Cook Hospital, Middlesborough, after Wednesday's crash but later died from his injuries.
The crash was at 9.25am on the northbound A19 close to the Borrowby junction with Gate Lane Bridge.
The dead man's white Volkswagen van was in a collision with a white Volvo lorry.
The lorry driver was unhurt but the collision closed the northbound A19 for nearly five hours.
Witnesses to the crash, or who saw how the vehicles were driven prior to it, should call Traffic Constable Roger Walker on 0845-6060-247.
