ENGLAND goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was allegedly involved in a North East pub scuffle over the weekend after a group of pub revellers reportedly mocked his small “T-rex arms”.

The shot-stopper, who is originally from the region, attended the Beggar’s Bridge in East Boldon, South Tyneside, on Sunday (February 13) evening with a group of friends.

While at the pub, the Everton footballer was allegedly targeted with abuse by another group drinking there at around 9pm, which included one jibe about his small arms, which has become the centre of amusement for opposition fans over the last few years.

According to witnesses, a brawl broke out after words were exchanged, which saw one reveller leave the pub with a broken nose and another person involved having a broken phone.

By the time officers from Northumbria Police arrived at the pub, the 27-year-old sportsman and his friends had left the scene, and the police force are now looking for information and witnesses that can help with their investigations.

There is no suggestion that Mr Pickford was involved in the scuffle in South Tyneside, with witnesses suggesting that “Pickford wasn’t hurt at all. He was out of the door as soon as it kicked off. Pickford’s group left by minibus before the police came.”

Northumbria Police have also confirmed that no arrests or charges have been brought against anyone involved.

A spokesperson for the force told The Northern Echo: “At about 9pm on Sunday we received a report of a disturbance at the Beggar’s Bridge pub in East Boldon.

“It was reported that a fight broke out between two groups of males inside the premises.

“An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220213-1059.”

Everton Football Club have also defended Mr Pickford, saying that the 27-year-old was not involved, but have confirmed that they won’t be issuing any official statement on the matter.

A spokesperson for the Premier League club said: “The club will not be making any comment on this and for the record there’s no suggestion Jordan did anything wrong.”

The brawl came almost a week after a Newcastle United fan wore a T-Rex costume at a match to poke fun at Pickford — who used to play for local rivals Sunderland.

Other football fans have also done the same in the past, with some bringing T-rex toys, dressing up as the dinosaur and singing chants that include the comparison within.
