A TOWN centre outdoor clothing and equipment shop is relocating from its existing town centre premises after announcing a closing down sale.

Millets, located at the back of Darlington Market, will be moving in the coming weeks.

Signs advertising a closing down sale say: “All stock must go. 30% off absolutely everything.”

It was feared the shop will be leaving the town for good, but it will be moving to 28-34 Northgate, where Topman stood until the business went into administration in 2021.

The Northern Echo spoke to a Millets employee who told us the shop will open in its new location in roughly six to eight weeks, partly due to the redevelopment of Darlington Market.

The move comes as other businesses based within Darlington Market have either relocated or moved due to the multi-million pound redevelopment, including Il Cappucino and MulHolland and Son.

Various food stalls have emerged in the market since September last year, however, since then, What's Your Beef, a North-West burger business has closed and Fresco Pizza last month vacated the premises last month.

A spokesperson for Market Asset Management said: “We are in ongoing discussions with Millets regarding our redevelopment plans for the market and the creation of the temperate garden.”

Millets did not respond to a request for comment.
