A MAN has died after crashing into a road sign early this morning.

Cleveland Police is appealing for witnesses to a single vehicle crash in Eston, near Redcar, this morning in which a man sadly died.

The collision happened on Fabian Road and involved a silver Ford Fiesta.

The car travelled into the oncoming carriageway before colliding with a road sign at the junction of Churchill Road, then came to rest on a grassed area outside an address on Fabian Road.

The 49-year-old driver was treated at the scene by ambulance service colleagues and by paramedics while en route to James Cook University Hospital but sadly he was declared deceased just after 7.30am.

Cleveland Police has said their thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.

A male passenger is receiving treatment at hospital for what are believed to be minor injuries.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the Fiesta from around 6.35am today or the collision itself to contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number, quoting Ref CVP-22-021263.
