A SECOND food stall has closed at Darlington Indoor Market just months after a major redevelopment.

What’s Your Beef – a North West-based burger business – recently left its stall at the town centre location.

It’s former stall has been stripped of all cooking and food preparation equipment except some exterior signage and a menu board.

A former Facebook page and Instagram account advertising the What’s Your Beef Darlington branch has been deleted.

It follows Fresco Street Pizza, which closed last year because “the site isn’t what we expected,” its director told The Northern Echo.

A Market Asset Management (MAM), which runs it, spokesperson said they had been told by What’s Your Beef that they were unable to open due to staffing issues but were serving their notice period.

“At their request in November they are currently serving their notice period and we are in discussions with a potential replacement,” the spokesperson added.

“While it's always sad when traders move on the market continues to attract brilliant businesses such as the recent arrival of Italian food vendor Dough.”

Dough – which will offer pizzas, pasta and charcuterie – is ran by the team behind the popular SALT street food business in the town.

Its new stall is due to open later this month.

Darlington Indoor Market reopened in September last year after undergoing a significant facelift, which saw six new food traders open alongside a revamped bar area.

MAM hopes the investment will increase footfall to the market town centre.

But the revamp has faced criticism from locals and existing traders who feel the redevelopment is forcing established businesses to close.

The 35-year-old IL Cappuccino, renowned as one of the town's best spots for coffee, was forced to close in September due to the redevelopment.

Further work on the market’s redevelopment is underway, and includes a new temperate garden.

What's Your Beef did not respond to requests for comment.
