MAGISTRATES have banned a suspected drink driver from consuming alcohol for 90-days after he attacked a police officer and damaged a police cell in North Yorkshire.

Magistrates sitting at South East Northumerland Court on Tuesday (February 1) heard that Jordan Liam Watson assaulted a PC in Harrogate on August 28 last year.

He pleaded guilty to assault by beating an emergency services worker and also to damaging a custody cell at Harrogate police station.

He also admitted to failing to take an alcohol breathalyser test when suspected of drink driving on August 28.

This week magistrates sentenced him to a community order with a 90-day alcohol abstinence requirement.

This means that Watson, 33, must not drink any alcohol during the next 90-days and this will be monitored by officials.

He was also given a two-day overnight curfew meaning he must remain at his home in Elm Close, Blyth, from 5pm to 11.59pm on February 1 and 2 this month.

Watson was also ordered to take part in a thinking skills programme for 17 days and attend  Rehabilitation Activity Requirement appointments for a maximum of 30 days.

He was also told to pay a total of £335 compensation and court charges as well as serve a 12-month driving ban.
