ONE man suffered a severely broken leg and another was left with facial injuries following a serious assault in a County Durham town.

Police shared details of the attack, which happened during the early hours of New Year’s Day, in Chester-le-Street, as they appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Durham police said the incident occurred at the top of Front Street, in Chester-le-Street, and men were allegedly seen punching and kicking the victims.

A spokesperson said: “The assault resulted in the victim suffering a severely broken leg and another victim suffering facial injuries.

“Officers are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone that has footage of the incident.

“Please contact PC 9104 Chris Keeler from Stanley CID on 101 then use extension 209104 quoting reference number CRI00380823.”
