TWO women have been taken to hospital following a crash involving two vehicles in Darlington this afternoon.

The incident occurred at 12:50pm today on St Cuthbert's Way, near Darlington Hippodrome.

The two cars involved were a Vauxhall Zafira and a Ford Ka.

Pictures show that the road was closed off while police attended the scene.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed two women were taken to hospital with "chest and neck pain".

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called at 12.50pm today to a two-vehicle collision at the traffic lights on St Cuthbert’s Way, in Darlington, involving a Vauxhall Zafira and a Ford Ka.

"Paramedics also attended the scene and transported a woman to hospital."

A spokesman from the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 1:10pm this afternoon to assist other emergency services with a road traffic collision.

"We dispatched two ambulances and treated two female patients with chest and neck pain before transporting them to Darlington Memorial Hospital."
