A FIRE which gutted the roof of one house spread into a neighbouring property causing significant damage to that house too.

Emergency services were called to the fire in Newlands Road, Middlesbrough, at about 3.20pm yesterday (Saturday, January 29).

Cleveland Fire Brigade sent three appliances to the scene, from Middlesbrough and Saltburn stations.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, two hose jets, a thermal image camera and an aerial appliance to extinguish the fire.

The incident was dealt with by just after 5pm.

A spokesperson said: "The property in Newlands Road, Middlesbrough House, suffered 80 per cent fire damage to roof and upper floor loft space.

"The next door house sustained 30 per cent fire and smoke damage to the roof void."
