A DRIVER had a lucky escape when a brick smashed through the windscreen of his car on the A1.
The man was taken to hospital with an arm injury following the incident at the Barton interchange, near Scotch Corner, North Yorkshire, shortly after noon yesterday (Wed Jan 23).
A further three drivers on the southbound carriageway also reported bricks hitting their vehicles, but they were unhurt.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that crews first thought the bricks had been thrown from a bridge, but concluded that they had fallen from a lorry, although the vehicle has not been traced.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "We had a few reports of bricks going through car windscreens. One man was injured and taken to the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. A van driver and two other motorists had their vehicles hit, but were not injured."
