AN artist explored his dark side for inspiration for his latest exhibition.
Gavin Mayhew admits some images on display in Calm Down Its Only An Art Exhibition, at the Greenfield Gallery, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, may be seen as shocking.
But he hopes they will provoke thoughts about environmental concerns, commercialism, politics and man's reliance on machines and war.
He said: "This collection includes modern pieces and work I did in the Seventies straight from college - I'd call them my dark side.
"I know they can be quite horrific, but I also see humour in them.
"They reflect things I've been spouting on about for years and I'd like them to encourage visitors to the exhibition to think."
Mr Mayhew, from Weardale, held a workshop for pupils at Greenfield Community and Arts College to demonstrate his methods. The Gallery, at Greenfield Community and Arts Centre, Greenfield Way, Newton Aycliffe, is open Monday to Thursday, from 9am to 9pm, Friday, from 9am to 4pm, and Saturday, from 10am to 1pm.
The exhibition will run until Wednesday, February 6. For details, call 01325-379048.
