BOSSES are being encouraged to look after the mental well-being of staff.

County Durham Primary Care Trust (PCT) has organised free workshops for employers in the Wear Valley to raise awareness of the mental health of their workers.

The sessions aim to address the stigma attached to mental health and make employers more informed about problems and illnesses.

Organisers hope to improve employment opportunities and choices for people with mental health problems in the area.

Catherine Bleasdale, health improvement strategic lead for mental health at County Durham PCT and Darlington PCT, said: "Mental health problems are very common, with a predicted one-in-four people experiencing a problem with their mental health at some point in their life. The right job can have an extremely beneficial impact on health and well-being."

The workshops will take place until March in Crook and Bishop Auckland.
