A STAGE is inviting youngsters to join its ranks.

Wingate Stage Stars announced it has a limited number of places available for local children, aged between four and 16.

The group meets every Thursday at Wingate Community Centre, where lessons by professional tutors are provided in singing and drama, as well as costume and prop-making.

The group, which was started a year ago, is run by Rebecca McGarvie, from Melting Pot Arts, who said: "It is not often any places come up in the group, as it is so popular.

"We are looking forward to meeting new members, especially as later this term we are going to the theatre to see the musical Cats, and have some very special activities planned.'' Since its inception, the flourishing stage school has grown to 50 members and Rebecca said: "The group is the ideal place to start to learn about performing, and helps give children more confidence.

"We are particularly looking for children aged from four to seven to join our early years group, which will be working on a show of its own this term."

Sessions for those aged four to seven are held between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, with classes for youngsters aged between eight and 16 held between 5.30pm and 7.15pm.

The heavily-subsidised sessions cost £1 for the early learners, and £2 for the eight-plus group.
