FIREFIGHTERS attended three separate fires in the same town within ten hours.

Late last night a caravan was destroyed by a blaze on the A689 Claxton Bank, Hartlepool.

Cleveland Fire Brigade sent two appliances, from Hartlepool and Billingham stations, to the scene of the fire just before 10pm.

Firefighters used a jet and specialist breathing apparatus to deal with the fire within half an hour.

The incident came little over an hour after a crew from Hartlepool completed a call to a property fire in Kingsley Avenue, Rift House.

The brigade said the incident, which it was called to at 7.50pm and had been extinguished by 8.41pm, was a container fire.

The container itself was slightly damaged by heat and smoke but four portable toilets inside were destroyed.

Earlier yesterday, there was a large rubbish fire in Bertha Street, Hartlepool.

Three fire engines from Billingham and Hartlepool had been deployed just before 1.30pm and a cordon was put in place around the scene.

People were also asked to avoid the area yesterday afternoon and evening.

The most recent information from Cleveland Fire Brigade said it was an “ongoing incident involving large amount of rubbish and plastics”.
