Police are continuing enquiries to trace the driver of a car which failed to stop after hitting a pedestrian in Loftus on Boxing Day (December 26).

It happened shortly before 8.30pm on the High Street near Harry Thompson Funeral Services, and involved a male pedestrian and a small to medium sized silver hatchback car.

The 34-year-old man was walking along the footpath with another man, when he briefly stepped into the road to allow other people to pass by on the footpath.

On stepping onto the road an unknown passing car hit the man’s left leg, but it failed to stop and continued travelling along the High Street.

The pedestrian fell to the ground and fractured his left ankle.

He was treated at James Cook University Hospital.

Officers are appealing for the vehicle’s driver to contact Cleveland Police, as well as any witnesses who were in the area at the time and who may have seen the car or captured it on their dashcam.
