A COUNTY DURHAM hotel with a bar-bistro and restaurant has been sold.

North-West pub company, Trust Inns, has bought the Moorings Hotel at Hett Hills, near Chester-le-Street, which has been run by the same family for more than 20 years.

After more than 20 years, father and son owners Craig and Stuart Archer, are relinquishing the reins of ownership.

They had successfully run the Moorings Hotel since 2000 and, having extended the premises in 2007 with the addition of nine en-suite letting bedrooms.

Following completion of the sale, Trust Inns has engaged Andrew Husband and his business partner Sam Harman of the Red Lion, at Plawsworth, as the new tenants.

Craig Archer said: “We are pleased to hand over the ownership of the Moorings to Trust Inns who, together with their tenants, are planning investment which will see it go further from strength to strength."

The sale was arranged through the leisure property specialists Fleurets and the hotel was sold off a freehold asking price of £695,000.

The Moorings is the latest venue that the expanding company Trust Inns has added to its estate of more 340 pubs.

Located just over two miles outside of Chester-le-Street, the hotel overlooks the countryside of the West Durham Hills.

Handily placed, three miles to the west of junction 63 of the A1(M), the Moorings Hotel has been popular with visitors to the region as it is just 14 miles south of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and seven miles to the north of Durham.

Nick Thomas, of Fleurets, said: “We were delighted to act for Craig and Stuart, longstanding owners, in the sale of the Moorings Hotel which is representative of the high degree of activity and demand for successful, all round, inns which are attracting strong levels of interest both from corporate as well as private buyers."
