STREET wardens will not be so footsore when patrolling a community, thanks to a public-spirited resident.
Paul Fowell, who recently won a £1,000 prize for setting up a neighbourhood watch in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, has spent the money buying three mountain bikes for the local wardens.
He said: "I wanted to do something for the street wardens, as they do an excellent job."
He added: "As Coulby Newham is such a large area for the wardens to cover, the bikes will help them make a quicker response to any incidents"
Peter Riley, street warden shift manager for the area said: "Paul's donation of the bikes is very much appreciated.
"They'll make the wardens more visible and approachable to local people. In addition, the bicycles will allow them to get to some places that would be inaccessible to other vehicles".
Sharon Carr, neighbourhood safety officer for Middlesbrough Council, said: "I'm delighted that this prize money is being used in this way, as Coulby Newham is such a large area for the wardens to patrol on foot."
