YOUNG runners turned out in their festive best for the last parkrun of the year at a North-East park.

A total of 37 runners – including three first-timers – took part in the final Darlington South Park Junior parkrun of 2021, wearing antlers, costumes, and Christmas jumpers.

Run director Philippa Rayner said: “On behalf of the team, I want to say a big thank you to our amazing runners and volunteers for their support this year, and we look forward to seeing you all in 2022 for more parkrun joy!”

Treats were handed out at the end to reward runners for their efforts.

The free 2km run takes place every Sunday morning at 9am at South Park, in Darlington, and is open to ages four to 14. The event will return on Sunday, January 2.
