A SUSPECT continued to be questioned by police today after the death of a man believed to have been attacked with a broken bottle.
David McCully was found lying in a pool of blood at the junction of Strathmore and Shaftoe roads in Springwell, Sunderland, at 9.30am on Saturday.
Northumbria Police said Mr McCully, of nearby Grindon Lane, was later confirmed dead at Sunderland Royal Hospital from puncture wounds thought to have been caused in an assault with a broken bottle.
A force spokeswoman said: "This was not a stranger attack. The two men involved were known to each other."
The 37-year-old local man, arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday, remained in police custody being further interviewed today.
Detectives investigating the incident are keen to speak to trace Mr McCully's movements in the lead up to the incident which led to his death.
