A NUMBER of retailers and restaurants are giving staff the day off as they confirm they're staying shut on Boxing Day.

Traditionally, December 26 sees the High Street packed with shoppers eager to take part in the "Boxing Day sales," brimmed full of heavily reduced goods.

The day, which often sees people queuing outside shops from the early hours, remains controversial as some believe staff should not be called into work.

Over the years, a growing number of companies have started to bow into such pressure - with a number of retailers announcing they will stay closed on Boxing Day. 

And in the Metrocentre, some 21 restaurants, cafes and retailers in the will be doing just that.

Bosses have released the full list of the retailers that have already confirmed they will be remaining closed this coming Boxing Day.

Metrocentre bosses have urged people to check opening times with each individual retailer to avoid any disappointment. 

What are the rules for visiting over the festive period

In a statement, Metrocentre bosses said that they would be following Government guidelines and asking its shoppers to do so.

Setting out its rules, it said: "Following the Government’s latest announcement, we are making visitors aware that you must wear a face covering while in centre, unless exempt.

"Our teams will be on hand to remind visitors on the latest Government guidance.

"Naturally, anyone with a medical condition that prevents them from covering their face will be exempt, as will children under the age of 11.

"Please help us to keep everyone safe. Thank you for being considerate of other customers and our colleagues."
