A TEENAGER has been arrested and banned from visiting Darlington in connection with several alleged stalking incidents.

The 17-year-old was arrested in Darlington on Thursday and was taken to custody, where he was interviewed by officers.

He has been released on police bail with conditions not to enter Darlington while officers carry out further enquiries.

It follows a recently reported incident on Sunday when a woman was walking home from Bondgate towards Barningham Street, in Darlington, at around 9.15pm, when she became aware of a man following her.

As she quickened her pace due to feeling threatened, the man did too.

She reached home and locked the door, where the man then pressed his face against a downstairs window.

The man did not attempt to speak to her, but the woman understandably felt frightened by his behaviour.

It follows two similar incidents which took place on Greenbank Road on November 25 and November 26 in which a man tapped on the windows of two separate houses and made lewd hand gestures towards the occupants before running off.

If anyone has any information that could help the ongoing investigation, contact Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 411 of December 5.

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
