The body, which promotes Yorkshire as a tourist destination and helped bring the Tour de Yorkshire to the region, was hit by expenses scandals and bullying claims in 2019, forcing the then CEO Gary Verity to resign.

His departure was later followed by the resignation of chairman Ron McMillan.

James Mason took the helm in December 2019, but announced in September 2020 that he would be stepping down after less than two years in the role.

Peter Box, the current Chair of Welcome to Yorkshire, said he was 'grateful' that leaders in Yorkshire and Humber were conducting their own review.

He added: “It is important that our work does not overlap with this process but is complementary to it.

“It is our intention that the Welcome to Yorkshire review takes into account important research on the region’s tourism sector carried out over the last two years.

“We look forward to producing a final report for consideration by the Yorkshire and Humber leaders in February.”
