AN UP-and-coming musician from the North East has flown to the top of the UK music charts with his debut single after drawing comparisons to Sam Fender.

Keiran Bowe, who has been tipped as “the freshest new talent to come from the region” by music critics, has seen his debut release ‘Hinny’ storm the charts over the past seven days.

Peaking at number three in the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Chart and at 17 in the iTunes UK Chart, the Gateshead singer’s first single is an “emotive Indie anthem that showcases his huge talent and potential,” according to those in the music business.

Along with his comparisons to Sam Fender, the young artist says it was “surreal” to see his song sitting next to the fellow Geordie on the official chart.

The singer/songwriter’s first official single is about a particularly emotional time in his life, and, despite writing songs for years, it was only during lockdown that he began to explore new ground in his songwriting and focus on his solo work.

He said: "For a normal lad from Gateshead this is beyond crazy. I’ve never in a million years written anything with the intention or idea of it charting. For it to happen, I haven’t any words."

With the music in place and new management from Newcastle’s ‘Strong Artists,’ the young talent has been given the opportunity to pave his way in the music industry.

The musician kicked off a tour of the North East last week which will conclude with a headline show at Tyne Bank Brewery on December 11.

After a horrific year for the arts, particularly those relying on public performances, the musician and the band are determined to look forward instead of back.

He added: “There’s something special about being in a venue, looking out at all of the faces, sharing what you’ve written and, sometimes, even hearing the words sang back at you.

“Doing our first socially distanced gigs gave us the hunger to get back out gigging properly again. Performing live is my medicine and I’ll never get enough of it.”
