AN explosion will take place tonight at a former steelworks.

This evening (Friday 3), at 8pm, a controlled explosive demolition will take place on the former Ore Bunker at Teesworks.

The Ore Bunker was part of the former Raw Materials Handling Area at the Redcar steelworks.

Works are confined to the site and the blast will last for a few seconds.

The Tees Valley Combined Authority apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Film and photography of the demolition will be shared with the public following the event.

This follows after the former Redcar Stock House which sat opposite the Redcar Blast Furnace was demolished last month.

These explosions are part of the clearing of the Teesworks site which started back in March with the demolition of one of the 70-metre-tall chimneys of the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS).

The Dorman Long Tower in South Bank, Redcar along with the Gibbon Wilputte Coal bunker and the Gibbon Wilputte Battery Waste Gas Chimney was demolished in September.

The destruction of the tower was contraversial with a bid lodged to list the former South Bank coal tower, however this was appealed by the Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen and the building was torn down.
