A HIGH street bank has named the branches that will close across the UK - and four have been named in our region.

TSB has officially confirmed 70 branches nationally will close as it claims more customers move to online banking.

In a short statement on Tuesday, the business said that it would end up with just 220 branches left by the end of June next year.

In a list published this morning, it named branches in Newton Aycliffe and Northallerton, North Yorkshire among those to close.

What TSB has said about the closures

TSB chief customer officer Robin Bulloch said: “Closing branches is an incredibly difficult decision to take, but we have to respond to the changes in the way people bank and provide the right mix of services for all our customers now and into the future.

“These changes allow us to maintain an extensive branch presence across the country. They are accompanied by a significant investment programme to upgrade branches to better suit customer needs. And, where it takes longer to get to the nearest branch, we will introduce more ‘pop-up’ services in communities.”

The bank claimed that 90 percent of its customers will still be within 20 minutes of a branch.

It plans to add another ten pop-up bank branches to its offering, adding to the 41 that have already been established in communities across the UK.

TSB also promised extra support for vulnerable customers who will be hit by the closures.
