A FAMILY run Indian restaurant is wowing industry judges winning a prestigious award at the Bangladesh Catering Association awards in London.

Babul’s based in Barnard Castle was awarded its fourth award this year after recently going through extensive redevelopment of its restaurant and fighting for survival, through the pandemic.

After rebranding to Babul’s in honour of the owner’s father, the team developed a new menu to stand out from the crowd.

Babul’s stood out from hundreds of entrants from the North East at the awards and was presented the title, Best Restaurant, at London’s O2 Arena of Best Restaurant.

They were judged on innovation, presentation, hygiene standards and customer service.

Owner of Babul’s, Shuhel Ahmed, said: “To be recognised by our industry and peers is amazing. We’ve been trying to do things a little different, we’ve experimented with new styles of cooking and brought in a new type menu; this award is such an honour and hope we’ve done dad, and our local community, proud.”

Mr. Mitu Choudhury, Secretary General, of the BCA says: “Our Awards are a celebration of the Bangladeshi curry industry, shining a light on great local curry houses serving great food. The winners are creating some of the best curries in the country and we need to support them.”
