THE online retailer, Amazon has said it is "deeply saddened" after the death of a worker at one of its warehouses in the UK.

According to the BBC, a worker died at the scene after reportedly falling unwell at its Tilbury warehouse in Essex on Sunday morning.

The East of England Ambulance Service has confirmed it was called to reports of an individual who was unwell at 8.10am, who later died in the warehouse.

The BBC has said the worker had been found in the toilets, while it is understood the warehouse was not operational and the incident was not work-related.

The Essex Police force later confirmed the death of the worker at the warehouse was not being treated as suspicious.

In a statement, Amazon said: "[The person's] family and loved ones are in our thoughts, and we're supporting them and our employees during this difficult time."

According to reports, the Tilbury warehouse usually runs 24/7 schedule, but it had been closed to allow for maintenance.

Amazon has three warehouses in the North East at locations including Durham, Darlington and recently-opened site in Gateshead.
