A FIRST look has revealed how a chain dubbed "better than KFC" will make its debut in the region as it prepares to open for the first time tomorrow.

Jollibee will open its first ever restaurant in the North East on Thursday (November 4) after seeing huge demand and popularity in other sites across the UK.

The restaurant, which is a big household name in the Philippines, saw thousands queue when it first opened its doors in Liverpool last year and London the year before.

As it opened in the North West, the Liverpool Echo claimed customers had said the chicken served by Jollibee was "better than KFC."

But pictures show how the restaurant, which is on Northumberland Street, opposite Santander, will look as hundreds are expected to queue in coming days.

Adam Parkinson, Business Head of Jollibee Europe, said: “It’s great to be opening in the heart of Newcastle, on one of the busiest streets in the north and introducing more new customers to Jollibee.

"For anyone who doesn’t know us, this is the chance to try the crispiest fried chicken and the best chicken burgers in town.

"Our mission first and foremost is to bring our customers the very best food at amazing value and provide the joyful experience of Jollibee that has made the brand so famous worldwide.”

The restaurant will serve halal meat to cater to local requests from the community and open 10am-10pm daily, with enough capacity for 95 indoor diners.

It is opening in the former American Candy store, which was vacated last year and left empty while plans for Jollibee Newcastle were submitted.

Explaining why Newcastle was chosen as the first North East location, Mr Parkinson said: “The student population and the incredible culture and nightlife of Newcastle meant it had to be next on our list.

"I am confident Geordies will love our burgers, our unique menu and our great prices. Jollibee is designed as a place for young people to hang out with friends and feel relaxed, with the best customer service and a fun store experience.

"You can see this for yourself if you check out our TikTok channel, which launched in May and already has over 20k followers! It’s proof for us that Jollibee is becoming a household name among the Gen Z population in the UK.”

Around 50 jobs have been created following Jollibee's arrival to the region, with a number of roles still up for grabs.

What you can expect from the menu

According to Jollibee, the menu features fast-food classics such as their signature crispy fried “Chickenjoy", “Jolly Spaghetti”, made with a sweet-style sauce, loaded with cheese and hot dog slices.

Hand-breaded in store, the brand’s take on fried chicken will be served with a range of dipping sauces including Asian Ginger Chilli Sauce and Sriracha Mayonnaise.

Jollibee has also said it has launched a range of new menu items which will be available at the Newcastle restaurant including the Spicy Chicken Burger, Sriracha Chicken Loaded Fries and the Chicken Wrap.
