The tree is also soon to be accompanied by a commemorative plaque.

Cllr Martin said: “I am delighted to lead the County Council in supporting the ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ project which aims to provide a legacy for future generations to enjoy whilst helping to tackle climate change.

“Whether you have space for individual saplings or can accommodate large woodland projects, anybody can get involved.”

Individuals, schools, parishes, community groups, villages, towns, cities and businesses are being encouraged to plant trees through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.

Support is available to anyone who would like to take part, from help and advice about tree planting to tangible support such as more than three million free saplings being made available to schools and community groups.

As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.
