A POLICE investigation is underway after a car left the carriageway and hit a metal barrier on the A688 at Bishop Auckland.

The silver/grey Fiat Punto collided with a barrier at the Asda roundabout just before 8.40pm last night.

The vehicle is believed to have been driven from the Woodhouse Lane area of Bishop Auckland and anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the vehicle in the moments leading up to the collision, is asked to contact officers investigating the incident.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who recorded dashcam footage from the moments leading up to the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant James Woodcock at Bishop Auckland Police on 101, quoting incident number 0461 of October 31.
