A BRAND new Harrods beauty hall and champagne bar could be set to open in a former department store in the Metrocentre as hoardings have gone up.

The highly-anticipated, Harrods H Beauty was first announced earlier this year as bosses confirmed the name would be making its North East debut in 2022.

At the time, Metrocentre bosses did not confirm the exact location but said it would take over a huge 30,000 sq ft unit in the 'Town Square.'

However, shoppers have spotted large hoardings go up outside the former House of Fraser, with some believing it to be the site of the new Harrods.

The hoardings, which do not have any logos, promise shoppers that something "beautiful" is opening while saying it is adding a "little more gloss" to the centre.

Meanwhile, the area surrounding the former House of Fraser looks appears to be undergoing a refurbishment with ceiling tiles around the store removed.

Currently, the Town Square features retailers including O2, Beaverbrooks, Costa Coffee and another empty unit that was once occupied by Oasis fashion.

The former department store, which is set over two storeys and has its own external entrance, was vacated by House of Fraser in September.

A huge sale offering more than 20 percent off its full line-up of goods was held in the weeks leading up to its closure.

The Frasers Group, which owns the brand, had confirmed it had pulled out as it had been unable to reach an agreement to continue its tenancy.

At the time, Metrocentre bosses said they were in talks with a number of concessions within House of Fraser saying it "hoped" many of the current brands would remain, but did not release any further details.

The Metrocentre was again approached but did not confirm whether Harrods H Beauty is opening in the former House of Fraser.
