TODAY (Tuesday), a number of arrests were carried out in connection with alleged offences in the Hemlington area.

Four youths, a 16-year-old girl and three boys aged 13, 14 and 16, from the Hemlington area, have been arrested in connection with alleged offences in the local area.

On Sunday, October 10 at around 5.50pm, police on Fonteyn Court had glass bottles thrown at them, whilst engaging with some younger children in the area.

The younger children were removed from the location to prevent them being harmed, and a 16-year-old male and female were arrested on suspicion of affray.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of criminal damage, racially motivated criminal damage, theft and attempted theft after alleged incidents including a brick thrown through the window of a bus on Casshouse Road, theft of wheelie bins which were set alight, residential windows smashed and damage to a pizza shop on Wednesday (October 13).

A 13-year-old boy was also arrested this morning on suspicion of aggravated public order, three public order offences and harassment.

Inspector Chris Turner, from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Team, said: “We have taken action this morning following multiple reports of alleged incidents which are having wider impact on the local community of Hemlington.

“Enquiries are ongoing into these alleged incidents, but local residents can be reassured that we will act upon reports made to us. Officers will continue to work with partners in the local authority, fire brigade and housing associations to take any reported issues.
