A STRONG earthquake has been reported off the coast of Turkey and Greece - as thousands of holidaymakers are understood to be in the countries.

Local news outlets have reported that an undersea magnitude six quake took place at around 8.30am on Tuesday.

It is thought that the earthquake, which hit almost 200 km off the coast of Kas in Antalya province, has been felt in neighbouring countries.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate later confirmed the earthquake had taken place.

It is understood there have not been any reports of damage or casualties in the immediately affected areas.
