POLICE investigating an assault which left a man with a fractured cheekbone and eye socket have appealed to the public for help.

Officers received a report that a man had been subjected to an unprovoked attack at The Yard bar on Scotswood Road, between 11pm and 11.30pm, on Saturday, July 24.

It was reported that the victim, aged 31, was approached by another male who then headbutted him, fracturing his eye socket, cheekbone and causing severe swelling and bruising to his face.

The offender has then left the scene.

Northumbria Police said an investigation was immediately launched and officers have been busy carrying out extensive enquiries, including reviewing CCTV from the area.

They are now appealing to the public for information, and have also issued a photograph of a group of people who were in the area at the time of the incident, who could have information which assists the investigation.
