A PREMIER League football match was halted due to a medical emergency on Sunday evening.
Newcastle’s match against Tottenham Hotspur was suspended just before the end of the first half.
A supporter collapsed in the East Stand and received emergency treatment at St James' Park before being taken to hospital, match officials have confirmed.
The supporter who was in need of urgent medical assistance has been stabilised and is on their way to hospital.

A defibrillator is understood to have been rushed to a fan who had become unwell.
Tottenham had been about to take a corner in the 40th minute when players were alerted to the incident.
The players were taken off the field while the fan received emergency treatment.
The game was able to resume play after a short break.
