POLICE are tackling a spate of antisocial behaviour involving youths with fireworks.

Durham Police said there has been a "dramatic increase" in incidents including antisocial behaviour, criminal damage and harassment relating to the use of illegal fireworks in the Bishop Auckland area, in the last week.

A spokesperson for the town's Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The team will be liaising with local shops and schools in the area to provide education and gain any intelligence regarding identifying the youths and the sale of illegal fireworks.”

The team has also identified two youths as part of an investigation into criminal damage to a property in the Eldon area, enquiries to identify others in the group are ongoing.

And officers worked with firefighters and council officers after noticing smoke in Eldon on Friday and found an illegal fly-tip alight.
