TRAFFIC is now moving smoothly on a major road north of Teesside following a multiple car crash this morning.

Police have responded to a three-vehicle collision on Stockton Road westbound near Wolviston.

The incident happened at 7.40am today, Tuesday, October 5. 

The crash has severely impacted traffic flow in the area, which has back up to Wolviston. Police, Fire and Ambulance are on scene and one male driver is being taken to hospital by a family member.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 7:47am this morning to reports of a four-vehicle road traffic collision on the A689 near Billingham.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, and took one patient to North Tees Hospital for further treatment." 

One lane was reopened fairly quickly but a backlog of traffic formed.
